NORTHERN NEW JERSEY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Women Of Impact Special Interest Group develops and promotes volunteer opportunities that allow our members to do community service together. In addition, our Peer Groups and individual members often choose to participate in additional volunteer opportunities at some of the following organizations.

Center for Hope & Safety is a non-profit agency that is dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence and their children. The center offers shelter, counseling, legal and other services for free. Their 24 hour hotline for anyone facing domestic violence is 201-944-9600.  In 2022, our Women's Connection chapter worked with the center to present an educational webinar on domestic violence. The Community FoodBank of NJ (CFBNJ), a member of Feeding America®, is the leading anti-hunger and anti-poverty organization in the state. What started as a modest enterprise in downtown Newark has grown to two warehouse facilities in Hillside and Egg Harbor Township, the combined size of five football fields. These locations serve area programs and community partners – over 800 in 15 of 21 New Jersey counties.

Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative (BVMI) is a non-profit, state licensed, ambulatory care center located in Hackensack. The Center opened in 2009 to provide free healthcare, mental health support and case management services for low-income working Bergen County adults who do not have insurance. In 2023, 1,000 patients were seen for 9,600 visits. There are 70 clinical volunteers and 90 administrative volunteers who donate over 10,000 hours of work. The center is almost 100% supported by philanthropic individuals, corporations and foundations, plus a grant from the New Jersey Department of Health.

Jersey Cares, a nonprofit organization, established in 1993, recruits and engages volunteers in rewarding, effective efforts that address community-identified needs. We partner with local nonprofits to identify needs and implement volunteer projects to meet these needs.

The Volunteer Center has been affecting the lives of Bergen County residents for over 50 years. Since the early 1970s, its programs and services have provided a means for safer environments, self-sufficiency and brighter futures. The programs assist low-income families, while giving service-minded individuals a chance to make a difference.
