ADVOCATES FOR EQUITY

Advocates for Equity (AFE) is the social justice committee of the Philadelphia Chapter of Women's Connection. Its mission is to acknowledge and address the ways that systemic racism and other social injustices continue to influence the current and future Greater Philadelphia communities of color. AFE members are committed to social justice and are particularly committed to raise awareness, educate, and advocate for racial equity. AFE offers programming directly and also supports other Philadelphia Chapter committees that wish to incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

The AFE committee provides educational opportunities for members, both through national and local sources, so that members can understand the history of racism and root causes of present-day inequities and why they might take actions to change the trajectory.

AFE also creates and offers opportunities for Women's Connection members to go from “believers to builders” and take action to help improve equity across the diverse populations in the Greater Philadelphia area.

AFE will develop, support and promote both local and national  in-person and virtual programming. All the education and programming offered by Advocates for Equity aligns with Women's Connection’s 501(c)3 status and remains clear of political, legislative and lobbying activity.

Advocates for Equity invites Philadelphia Chapter members who wish to help with programming or activities to join this committee. Please contact Suzanne Kaplan, Chair.

Unpacking Whiteness Workshop:
This 7-week intensive workshop is offered periodically and is strongly supported by Women's Connection National.  Designed for individuals who identify as White, many Philadelphia Chapter members have participated in this powerful workshop that explores “white privilege in a non-judgmental format.”
