Art Appreciation

General Information

The purpose of this group is to connect women who enjoy viewing, discussing, and learning about art. Each month we explore one aspect of art: an element of art, a particular art medium, an art movement, a specific artist, or an exhibit. Our focus is on increasing our knowledge of art.

If you are interested in participating or want to be on our contact list, 1) add yourself to the contact group or 2) Contact Patty Petersen using the Member Directory. If not a member, please contact us.

New members are always welcome! The group meets the second Wednesday of each month. We do not meet during the summer months

Event Information

April 8: Tracey Baker will lead us in a discussion of “Women in Abstraction.” If you have a photo of an abstract piece created by a woman artist, please send it via email to Tracey by April 1. Please include the artist’s name and date of the artwork, if available. For our newer members, we often collect photos from members that we share in a slide show for discussion.

A Zoom link for the meeting will be sent to you closer to the date.

March recap: Thank you to Eileen Chanen, who led us in a discussion of Amish art. There were 15 of us on Zoom! We learned that art is a rare profession for the Amish, who prefer practical items. Three Amish artists are Paul Weaver, a woodcarver from Ohio; Christy Otto, who does line drawings in Indiana; and Anna Weaver, a painter in New York. Check them out!

May 13: We’ll meet in person! More details to come.

Art Appreciation does not meet June-August, but if you want to visit an exhibit or know of an art event during that time, feel free to send a note to our group through the GROUP button on our chapter’s home page. Thank you!
