General Information

The purpose of this group is to connect women who enjoy viewing, discussing, and learning about art. From September through May we explore one aspect of art: an element of art, a particular art medium, an art movement, a specific artist, or an exhibit. Our focus is on increasing our knowledge of art.

Hello, art enthusiasts!

As summer winds down, we’re gearing up for our Art Appreciation group! We meet in person or via Zoom from 1-2:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month.

Here’s what we have on tap for September-November. Please let me know if you will attend, in case plans change and I need to contact you.

Sept. 9, 2026 - “Trees: Homage to Foliage” exhibit at Groveland Gallery, Minneapolis

We’ll meet at Groveland Gallery. Please arrive by 12:45 and gather outside the gallery. If someone would like to suggest a restaurant, we could meet for lunch beforehand.

As William Blake observed, “The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way … to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.”

This exhibit invites viewers to see with that imagination; to appreciate the beauty, strength and generosity of trees while reflecting on our shared responsibility to conserve these magnificent living creatures.

Groveland Gallery is located at 25 Groveland Terrace, just up the hill from the Walker Art Center, in Minneapolis. There is off-street parking and additional parking available in the Walker Art Center’s underground ramp.

Oct. 14 - Three Exhibits at Hopkins Center for the Arts

We’ll meet at Hopkins Center for the Arts. Please arrive by 12:45 and gather inside the front entrance. If someone would like to suggest a restaurant, we could meet for lunch beforehand.

There will be three exhibits: Homewood Photography Salon annual show (Debra Fisher Goldstein is a member photographer), John Wells “Material Geometry,” and the annual juried member show (all mediums).

The Homewood Photography Salon subject matter represents street, documentary, travel portraiture, nature, wildlife, abstract, and landscape photography.

In “Material Geometry,” John Wells explores the spatial relationships of shapes, sizes and positions of forms in reductive, minimal and elegant wall sculptures.

Nov. 11 - Ellsworth Kelly (via Zoom)

Denise Rupp will lead us in a discussion of Ellsworth Kelly, an America painter and sculptor. Kelly redefined postwar abstract art by stripping away personal expression in favor of pure color, shape and direct spatial perception.
