About this event

Wednesday, November 18, 2026, 6:30 PM (ET)

Come join us for part four of New York City based estate planning and elder law attorney Lorese Phillips’ for the final session of our four-part series  “Planning for Your Future".

Part 4 -   What is Elder Law & When do You Need an Elder Law Attorney?
Should you consult an estate planning attorney or an elder law attorney, or just turn to online software to create documents?

In her 4th presentation, Attorney Phillips will address:
  • What makes elder law attorneys different from other attorneys, including estate planning attorneys;
  • The wide range of practice areas in which elder law attorneys represent clients and how they make a difference;
  • What if you just want to update your Will, your trust and/or your advanced directives — does it matter if you go to an estate planning attorney or an elder law attorney?

Questions to ask and issues to consider before you decide on an attorney to help with your planning;
  • The likelihood of needing long-term care services once you reach advanced age and how to financially plan for the same; what Medicare covers and what it doesn’t and how long-term care insurance can help;
  • Why people look to the Medicaid program to help pay for long-term care;
  • Considerations for housing and care options as we age; options for home care, what assisting living can and cannot provide, and when a nursing home may need to be a consideration, even if temporarily;
  • Who should be concerned about elder abuse and what you can do to protect yourself;
  • What exactly is a guardianship?
  • What you can do to avoid having a court intrude upon your life if you should become incapacitated.

These questions and much more will be addressed in Ms. Phillips’ first presentation. You will also receive the The Elder Law PowerPoint to use as a resource.

Join us for one, two, or all of these important educational Presentations.

Each session is $15 for members.
