MEET ME THERE - DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
Let's Explore Chicago at the Mexican Museum of Art. They will hold its annual Dia de los Muertos celebration by transforming the Museum and its surroundings into a beautiful space to remember departed loved ones. Experience the beauty of this beloved tradition through ofrendas created by community members and enjoy live music and performances.
The National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilson hosts a free annual exhibit. But the highlight is the costumes and music which takes place in Harrison Park. After a couple of hours, our host invites you to join her at one of the local Mexican restaurants.
This year marks the 40th annual Día de Muertos exhibition at the National Museum of Mexican Art. As the museum reflects on four decades of collecting, preserving, and celebrating Mexican art and culture, this exhibition looks back through the Permanent Collection to trace the evolution of Day of the Dead and the museum itself. Just as Day of the Dead keeps the memories of loved ones alive, the museum preserves memory through art.
Meet Up: Once you register for the event, please coordinate with Linda via text for the meet up and lunch. It's a very popular event.
Transportation: The museum is easily accessible via the CTA Pink Line train, using the Damen or
18th Street stops, or taking the #50 Damen Bus to 19th Street, or the #9 Ashland Bus to 18th Street.
While there is technically street parking, it is VERY DIFFICULT to find a spot so I highly recommend
taking public transit or an Uber.
