For October, Barbara is taking us to the Smithsonian American Art Museum for its new exhibit, Much Here Is Beautiful: Photography Surveys of the U.S. Bicentennial. From the California coast to the Kansas heartland to the streets of New York City, the photographs offer an expansive and evocative portrait of America in the 1970s and early 1980s. The exhibit also explores selected images from photography surveys that document people and places in the United States from the 19th century to the years before and after the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976. More information on the exhibit here.
The museum is located at 8th and G Streets, NW, right next to the 9th Street exit at the Gallery Place Metro stop. We'll meet in the G Street lobby at noon.
At 1:15, we'll meet back in the lobby and walk two blocks for lunch at Clyde's, which has an eclectic menu of American food. It's at 606 7th St., NW. We have reserved two tables for 1:30 since they will not provide separate checks for parties of over five or six.
Event Host: Barbara Ruben. Repeat attendees will be invited to host a future event.
