Inspiring Women: Mary-Claire King
Scientist and Humanitarian
October’s session will highlight the life and career of Dr. King. A geneticist who revolutionized women’s health with her discovery of the BRCA gene that causes breast cancer, Dr. King also used her knowledge of genetics to support the Argentinian “Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo” and reunite them with many lost grandchildren. During this session we will track Dr. King’s extraordinary achievements, and watch a video of Dr. King looking back on her early career as a scientist (and single mother). Then we’ll reflect together on what makes Dr. King so compelling, exciting, and inspiring.
Note: This is an encore; Dr. King was highlighted in the very first “Inspiring Women” session in May 2025 – her story bears repeating! Dr. King herself will not appear at this event.
