On August 1, Leslie is hosting our visit the Smithsonian African Art Museum to see Currents: Water in African Art. Water’s fluidity means there are as many meanings associated with it as there are forms. Diverse and wide-ranging in material, time period, style, and intended use, the objects in this exhibition span the continent of Africa to explore how water’s currents flow through myths, metaphors, and rituals. More information on Currents at https://africa.si.edu/exhibitions/currents-water-african-art .
The museum’s address is 950 Independence Ave SW. Smithsonian is the nearest Metro. We will meet at the lobby entrance nearest Independence Ave. at noon. (If you arrive late, please look for us in the galleries or contact Gretchen, email below.)
After viewing the exhibit, and maybe some others including bronzes from Benin, we will meet back in the lobby at 1:30. Then for a tasty lunch, we will head to Mitsitam Native Foods Café in the Museum of the American Indian a few blocks down at 4th Street and Independence Avenue, SW.
Event Host: Leslie. Repeat attendees will be invited to host a future event.
