About this event

Wednesday, June 24, 2026, 6:30 PM

Come join us for Part Two of our Four-Part series. Planning for Your Future - New York City-based estate planning and elder law series with attorney Lorese Phillips. Each session is $15  for members.

Part 2 -   Understanding Trusts: The Basics
Trusts are widely used in estate planning and life planning for a multitude of reasons. And, contrary to the belief that ‘trusts are for the wealthy’, incorporating the use of a trust may not only save you money in the long run, but may also be the best way to plan for yourself and/or a loved one, no matter the size of your estate.

Ms. Phillips will discuss what a trust is, why you may wish to establish a trust, and the uses of various trusts in her upcoming presentation to the Women’s Connection NYC.

In her presentation, Attorney Phillips will address:

(1) What a trust is;
(2) How trusts work;
(3) The parties to a trust;
(4) Who trusts are for;
(5) Basic types of trusts; and
(6) When a trust is recommended.

We will also discuss:
  • Revocable Living Trusts;
  •  Trusts to benefit a loved one for a period of time, with the remainder to another or charity;
  • Trusts for minor beneficiaries and persons who may need extra protection;
  • Planning with retirement benefits and trusts;
  • Special Needs Trusts for persons with special needs or other disabilities, or chronic illness;
  • Pooled Income and Pooled Asset Trusts;
  • Trusts for asset protection, including Domestic Asset Protection Trusts, Beneficiary Controlled Trusts, and Medicaid Asset Protection Trusts;
  • Life Insurance Trusts;
  • Credit Shelter Trusts;
  • Charitable Trusts, and more if time allows.

Join us for one, two, or all of these important presentations.

Each session is $15 for members. Dates for the remaining sessions will be announced soon.
