Fashion in Art Tour plus Costume Art Exhibit

Join us at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) for a marvelous day focused on fashion and art.  The day will include an afternoon private Fashion in Art guided tour, covering fashion in the broader collection of the Met, and begin with a self-guided tour of the Costume Institute's avant-garde, thought-provoking Costume Art exhibit, where you can browse on your own for as long as you would like (no docent tours are offered).  We will break for lunch (museum and nearby recommendations will be suggested) and then reconvene for our afternoon guided tour.

Costume Art is the inaugural exhibition in the new, large galleries adjacent to the Great Hall.  It explores depictions of the dressed body. Drawing from the Met’s vast collection, focusing primarily on Western art from prehistory to the present, Costume Art presents connections between garments from The Costume Institute and objects from the Museum’s other collecting areas. Pairings between fashions and artworks will present a spectrum of connections and experiences: from the formal to the conceptual, the aesthetic to the political, the individual to the universal, the illustrative to the symbolic, and the playful to the profound - revealing the inherent relationship between clothing and the body. These pairings are organized into a series of thematic body types that reflect their pervasiveness and endurance through time and cultures. 

Our afternoon Fashion in Art private guided tour (1:30-2:30 pm) covers fashion through the ages and what garments reveal to us about the cultures that created them.  The tour explores clothing represented in paint, stone, wood and other media found across the Met's collections.

Registrants are responsible for getting themselves to the Met by 10:45 am.  We recommend that you purchase your train ticket now to take advantage of the current low fares.  One option, train #1162, leaves Phila.'s 30th Station at 8:20 am (note updated schedule).  

Please note that the cancellation deadline is 10/7/26.  Should you need to cancel before this date, credit will be issued to your WC account, to be used for future purchases.
