As part of the Penn Libraries' America 250 programming, this is our opportunity to participate in an hour long tour, printing demonstration, and workshop: "The Creative Printing for the Declaration." which is part of the Common Press's year-long program exploring the papermaking and printing techniques that created the first edition of the Declaration of Independence. Through monthly letterpress printing sessions, typesetting workshops, a city-wide rag collection and papermaking project, and a series of public lectures, workshops, and tours, the program highlights the production processes behind this Philadelphia-made foundational document.
Common Press at the University of Pennsylvania is dedicated to scholarly
exploration and creative practice in the history, craft, and material culture of printing and bookmaking. Through hands-on workshops (such as this one), it provides education about the cultural, historical, and technological significance of letterpress printing, typography, and bookbinding, making these practices accessible to Penn and the greater Philadelphia community.
Since there is such limited capacity for this workshop, we will be offering a repeat event on Wed. 7/29. In addition, we have made reservations at White Dog Cafe (3420 Sansom Street) for 12:15 pm lunch, if you would like to join us.
Please note that the cancellation deadline is 3/20/26. Should you need to cancel before this date, credit will be issued to your WC account, to be used for future purchases.
