Help End Hunger!
Food insecurity affects families, children, seniors, and neighbors in our own communities – people who are forced to make impossible choices between groceries, rent, and medical care. Over 210,000 individuals in Philadelphia experience food insecurity. Donations have dwindled since the holidays ended.
Philabundance, one of the largest non-profit food banks in the region, feeds 120,000 to 150,000 households weekly. But they face growing challenges due to recent federal funding cuts. Philabundance lost approximately $1.5 million — about 18% of its food-sourcing budget — after the USDA terminated the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program. In addition, over 85% of their TEFAP (Emergency Food Assistance Program) food deliveries were cancelled for the remainder of the fiscal year, representing over $525,000 worth of food that was already ordered. And proposed federal SNAP cuts could eliminate between 6 billion and 9 billion meals nationally each year.
To help those affected by this crisis, the Philadelphia Chapter of Women’s Connection has partnered with Philabundance to run a virtual food drive via monetary donations from February 12th through March 4th.
If you’d like to make an immediate difference in someone’s life, this is a simple but powerful way to help.
