Join Licensed tour guide, Bob Gelber, for a stroll through the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Bob has been at the museum as a staff volunteer for 19 years and has been roaming around its galleries for almost 60 years. Bob will take us by some of his favorite sections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, including the Greek and Roman Art Gallery, and the Temple of Dendur, in the Egyptian wing of the building, and search for graffiti, carved into the temple over 200 years ago. Both of these areas have interesting stories to tell.

From there we will enter the American Wing and see an early version pop-up art painted in the 19th century. The vast collection at the Met has grown over the last 155 years since the museum was incorporated in 1870, and its collection showcased in a brownstone further down Fifth Avenue. We will find the hidden original core of the 1880 building designed by Central Park designers Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wry Mould.

We will also explore the Richard Morris Hunt designed Fifth avenue façade, completed by his son Richard Howland Hunt and continue our search for many of the hidden treasures housed in the largest museum in the United States.

Museum Entry Fee: In addition to registration, entrance to the museum must be paid in cash. Please remember, as a resident of New York State, you pay what you want.

After the tour, we’ll head to a nearby restaurant for an optional lunch to continue the conversation about the exhibit and enjoy each other’s company. Please plan to bring cash to cover your meal.
