Enjoy a private tour which showcases the more than 250 items from the Penn Museum’s North American collections alongside contemporary Native art pieces. This 2,000-sq.-ft. interactive exhibition shares the complex histories and living relationships of Indigenous peoples to their ancestral homelands.
Developed in partnership with eight Indigenous consulting curators, the new Native North America Gallery explores the political, religious, linguistic, and artistic self-determination of Native peoples across the United States who are still thriving, despite a historic agenda to erase Indigenous identity, culture, and language.
A continuation of the Penn Museum’s work with Native specialists for more than a century, the gallery centers compelling first-person perspectives from four regions with especially strong connections to the Museum’s collections: Northeast (Delaware/Lenape), Southeast (Eastern Band Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek), Southwest (Pueblo), and Northwest (Lingít, Alutiiq).
Following our private tour, you are welcome to have lunch at the Museum Cafe and explore the rest of the museum at your liesure.
This is the first of two identical tours (noon and 2 pm).
