About this event
We will meet for lunch at 11:30am before moving on to Oakley Cabin African-American Museum, so that those who want to stay longer for an augmented reality tour can do so. Lunch will be at Z Burger & Maman Joon Kabob, 18100 Georgia Ave in Olney.
At the museum, we will be able to see artifacts and hear stories about the lives of Oakley Plantation’s enslaved laborers and, after Maryland’s emancipation in 1864, the free Black tenant families who lived there during the Reconstruction period.
After visiting the museum, you will have the option of linking to QR codes allowing a park interpreter avatar to guide you through eight different augmented reality experiences. Each one includes information about Oakley Cabin’s cultural history and the science of archaeology.
