South African soprano Golda Schultz is internationally hailed as one of today’s most talented and versatile artists; as at home in leading operatic roles as she is as featured soloist with the world’s foremost orchestras and conductors. She garners consistent praise for a fresh, radiant stage personality and lustrous tone. BR-Klassik wrote of her recent role debut as Agathe in Weber’s Der Freischütz at Bayerische Staatsoper: “Her voice is warm, natural, focused, it glows – a voice whose emotional power and beauty no one can resist. This was world class.”
Golda was born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1983. Her mother is a retired nurse, and her father a retired university math professor. Golda studied journalism at Rhodes University before switching to singing at the University of Capetown, and then at the Juilliard School in New York.
In 2011, Golda won a place at the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, after which her career developed rapidly. From her base in Germany, she has conquered the world’s opera houses and concert halls, from the Vienna State Opera to the Salzburg Festival; and from the Royal Opera House in London to the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
This masterclass is a unique opportunity to experience the artistry and expertise of this magical soprano, as she coaxes and inspires the possibilities from the carefully selected roster of Curtis artists. Each student usually sings his/her piece straight through and then will receive comments and coaching from Ms. Schultz - often blossoming with immediate improvement!
