Native Americans Today: A Yakama Perspective



James Smith is an enrolled member of the Yakama Indian Nation, raised on the Yakama Indian Reservation in Washington State. He served as a teacher and principal of the Yakama Nation Tribal School. James currently resides in Springfield, Missouri and serves on the board of the American Indian Center of Springfield. He will discuss his Yakama ancestry and experiences growing up on the Yakama Reservation in the 1960s and 70s. He will also share his thoughts on what every American should know about Native peoples. In addition, he will discuss a variety of Native American perspectives on Thanksgiving.
